ASTM F880 stainless steel socket set screws are a headless fastener threaded its entire length (except for the point) used commonly for fastening mated parts such as a shaft and collar. The F912 specification covers the requirements for austenitic grade stainless steel socket-set screws. Dimensional specifications are governed by ASME B18.3. The socket set screw's headless design allows the fastener to sit flush, or inset, into the threaded part. Stainless steel fasteners are commonly used in applications that require general atmospheric corrosion resistance, such as chemical and food processing equipment. Stainless steel has a higher corrosion resistance than carbon steel.

Governing Standards

ASTM F880 This specification covers the requirements for austenitic grade stainless steel socket-set screws (SSS) sizes 0.060 through 1.000 in. square head set screws (SHSS) sizes 0.190 through 1.500 in., and slotted headless set screws (HSS) 0.060 through 0.750 in., in two conditions, AF and CW.
ASME B18.3 Covers the complete general and dimensional data for various types of hexagon socket cap screws, shoulder screws, set screws, and hexagon keys recognized as an American National Standard.
ASME B1.1 UNC & UNF Class 2A Specifies the thread form, series, class, allowance, tolerance, and designation for unified screw threads.
