Rod End Basics
Rod ends appear similar to eye bolts, but have a thicker, smaller head in proportion to the body. They are designed to secure and suspend objects from anchor or pivot points. Industrial rod ends are used in a multitude of applications such as tensioning and controlling movement at pivot points. Also known as eye bolts, swing bolts, eye rod ends. Custom rod ends can be cut to any length required. B7 rod ends are made from drop forged 4140 alloy steel that is heat treated to ASTM A193 B7 specifications. B8 rod ends are made from drop forged 304 stainless steel that is heat treated to ASTM A193 B8 specifications. Blank rod ends are available without threads or pre-drilled eye holes. Common Finishes of Industrial Rod Ends
Steel rod ends are not commonly available in many finishes other than black. Custom coatings such as PTFE are available upon request.
Black or Plain Finish Rod Ends
Rod ends are unfinished or will have a minimally protective finish. Black rod ends offer near zero corrosion resistance, though black oxide coatings or oiled coatings do offer increased corrosion resistance over unfinished rod ends.
- Black rod ends are commonly referred to as plain finish, black, black oxide, black phosphate, bare or light oil coated.
